use of chakshu portal

We have seen a number of fraud incidents happening around us with our friends, relatives and people we know. We go crazy and wonder where to complain and where to track. These incidents happening around us and in the world have enlightened us to such an extent that we even sometimes sense if we have mistakenly picked up the call of a fraud.

For a few years, we were only informed about the ways we can report fraud when it has already happened to us. But what if we identify a fraud call, email or SMS and feel like reporting it?

That’s when Chakshu comes in! The Chakshu portal is launched by the Sancharsaathi portal, where you can report potential or, say, suspected frauds to help prevent fraudulent activities.

What is the Chakshu Portal?

The Chakshu portal is an initiative by the Government of India under Sanchar Saathi. On this portal, the citizens of India can report and prevent themselves from fraudulent activities happening to them through fake calls, SMS, WhatsApp messages, emails, and other intended means. This portal proactively identifies cybercrimes, financial frauds, impersonation, and other potentially fraudulent activities. Visit the official government website to report the crime with proof.

When Chakshu Portal Was Launched?

The Chakshu Portal was launched on March 4, 2024.

What is Sanchar Saathi?

Sanchar Saathi was launched in May 2023. It is a citizen portal where the citizens of India manage their mobile connections registered under their name, disconnect the ones they do not use, verify the authenticity of new or used devices, and use the Chakshu module to report suspected scams and frauds.

Types of Fraud You can Report on the Chakshu Portal

  1. Impersonation

Impersonation means when a fraud pretends to be any officer like police, or income tax officer and threatens you in the name of a crime you have never done.

  2. KYC Fraud

KYC fraudsters include tricking users by asking them to complete their KYC. They first seem like genuine help offered to solve issues related to gas connection, banking services and insurance policies, but it’s really not!

  3. Suspicious Offers

Suspicious offers like fake job opportunities, discounts, loan offers, and many more that seem too good to be true, but they are not.

  4. Sextortion

Sextortion is one of the serious crimes. When someone uses the victim’s personal photos or videos and forces them to do as they say. You can also report them on Chakshu and get help.

  5. Automated Calls

Automated calls are not made by humans. Rather it is operated by a computer program, and it sends an enormous number of phone calls to the victim’s device.

If you receive such auto-generated calls frequently on your device, you can directly report them on the Chakshu portal.

  6. Malicious Links

Frauds send malicious links that unknowingly send malware into your device that gives access to your personal information. Also, receiving emails with harmful website links can be reported to Chakshu.

  7. Fake Customer Care

You may receive a call from customer care for services asking for your personal information with a promise to solve your problem. It might look like a genuine call at first sight. Always remember that these frauds use psychological tactics to pressure the victim. So, victims make decisions in fear and do as they say.
